Dr. Matt Parsons grew up in upstate New York, attending Syracuse and Oswego State University with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Information Science with a focus in human-computer interaction in 2004 from the State University of New York of Oswego. Dr. Parsons has an honorable discharge from the Air Force Reserves. He achieved his Masters of Science in Information Security from Colorado Technical University in 2007. Dr. Parsons continued his education with a Doctorate in Computer Science with a focus in Information Assurance from Colorado Technical University in 2017. His dissertation was A Secure Software Design Pattern in Preventing Reflective Cross-Site Scripting in Microsoft .NET, a Quantitative Study. He has worked for various Fortune 500 companies as a software security expert, as an employee, and through his business Parsons Software Security Consulting, LLC. He programs in nineteen programming languages and is an expert in static-code analysis, manual code review, threat modeling, web penetration testing, ethical hacking, and Red Teaming. He has various information security certifications including his CISSP. He is a member of OWASP and is the former chapter lead for OWASP Dallas and is still on the OWASP Dallas Board of Directors.
Dr. Parsons currently resides southwest of Fort Worth with his three dogs: Asta, Scarlett, and Portia. He enjoys playing golf, exercising and lifting weights, mountain biking, snowboarding, windsurfing, wakeboarding, reading, and learning and keeping up with his craft.
